Integer is a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) for medical devices.

The company was formed in 2015 when Greatbatch Inc acquired Lake Region Medical, and was renamed Integer in 2016.

It has a particular focus in “cardiac rhythm management, neuromodulation, and cardio and vascular markets”.

In 2022, Integer acquired Aran Biomedical. This added “medical textile and coating technologies” to the company’s capabilities.

The company has had a presence in Ireland for almost 30 years (initially as Lake Region Medical) and currently employs over 1700 people in the country.

In Claregalway, the company lists the site as including “R&D development center for guidewires, balloon catheters & reinforced catheters. Full development and prototyping capabilities. Design Assurance test lab.”

In 2021, the company announced it was investing $30m to build a new manufacturing facility in Parkmore East that was expected to create up to 200 new jobs. The R&D and manufacturing facility was opened in September 2024.

That site’s capabilities are listed as including “Precision Grinding, Coiling, PTFE Coating (Discrete), Wire Straightening, Wire Pressing, Wire Flattening, Plasma/Laser Welding.”

In April 2022, Integer acquired Spiddal based Aran Biomedical. That facility undertakes activities including Textile manufacturing (weaving, Knitting), Complex Braiding, PTFE Implant Covering, Elastomeric Implant Coating, Biomaterial laser machining.

Integer lists its New Ross site activities as including “Assembly – Manual & Semi-automatic, Grinding, Mixed Coating – PTFE Coating and Hydrophilic Coating, and Wire Straightening & Cutting.”

In 2024, the company announced the completion of a $60m investment in the site. This lead to more than 70% increase in manufacturing capacity and brought new state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.
